1.- Hotel or Apartment in Madrid?: When is better to stay in an Hotel?

When we left home, either for work or for vacations, we have the dilemma of choosing a place where to stay.

If only we will be out one or two nights and we do not want to complicate, almost always the most practical is to find a hotel. 

The hotels are ideal if we have planned to spend all day away from home and we only have to use the room, often impersonal, to sleep in.

In a hotel is difficult to be intimate. For example, we will always have to go through reception.

They seldom have a comfortable sofa. If we are tired, but it is not the time to go to bed, we will have to lay ourselves on the bedside reading our book or newspaper, because there has not usually no other comfortable place to sit.

Comfort is a very subjective matter. For many it is very comfortable to call room service to bring us a sandwich or our favorite beverage. But for others it is really inconvenient to have to always eat out, not having a relaxing time enjoying tea while we choose what clothes ourselves or what we will visit today.

In hotels it is assumed that when we are away from home we will be out the whole time, and that we are not leaving our home to "stay in" in a hotel room, but yes to be working, or to be spending all day sightseeing. So the hotel rooms are not ready to be able to stay, for example, a whole afternoon there.

And, although it is essential to find a hotel that is near the area where we will have to move around, so we will avoid unnecessary trips, we will never feel that the room hotel is our own shelter: we will always feel strange in their units, and just they are designed in advance, for anyone endears their stays.

1.- Hotel o Apartamento en Madrid?: Cuando es adecuado alojarnos en un Hotel

Cuando salimos de casa, ya sea por motivos de trabajo, o por vacaciones, nos encontramos con el dilema de elegir un sitio donde quedarnos.

Si sólo vamos a estar fuera una o dos noches y no queremos complicarnos, casi siempre lo más práctico es buscar un hotel. Los hoteles son ideales en el caso de que tengamos previsto estar todo el día fuera de casa y sólo tengamos que utilizar la habitación, muchas veces impersonal, para dormir.

Los hoteles ofrecen servicios que, en las visitas rápidas a la ciudad, se agradecen: servicio de habitaciones, restaurante, limpieza diaria, etc. Pero carecen de otros que son fundamentales cuando nuestra estancia se prolonga.

En un hotel es difícil tener intimidad. Siempre tendremos que pasar por recepción.

Tampoco podremos disfrutar de mucho espacio. Las habitaciones, aunque normalmente bien equipadas, tienen el espacio justo para albergar nuestras camas y un pequeño escritorio donde difícilmente podremos trabajar, o leer un libro. Pocas veces tienen un cómodo sofá. Si llegamos cansados, pero no es la hora de irnos a la cama, tendremos que tumbarnos en ella para poder leer nuestro libro de cabecera o el periódico, pues no suele haber otro sitio cómodo para estar sentados.

La comodidad es un aspecto muy subjetivo. Para muchos es muy cómodo poder llamar al servicio de Habitaciones para que nos traigan un sandwich o nuestra bebida favorita. Pero para otros es realmente incómodo tener que comer siempre fuera, no tener un momento de relax disfrutando de un té mientras elegimos qué ropa ponernos o qué vamos a visitar hoy.

En los hoteles se da por hecho que cuando sales de casa estarás todo el tiempo fuera, que no sales de tu casa para “meterte” en la habitación de un hotel, sino para trabajar, o para estar todo el día haciendo turismo. Por eso las habitaciones de los hoteles no están preparadas para que pasemos, por ejemplo una tarde en ellas.

Y, aunque es fundamental encontrar un hotel que esté cerca de la zona por donde vamos a movernos, que nos evitará desplazamientos innecesarios, nunca sentiremos que llegamos a nuestro propio refugio: nos sentiremos siempre extraños en sus dependencias, pensadas ya, de antemano, para que nadie se encariñe con sus estancias.

Por eso, en estos viajes relámpago donde sólo necesitamos un sitio donde descansar despues de un ajetreado día de trabajo o de turismo, no tiene sentido que busquemos un apartamento.

Ventajas de Alquilar un Apartamento en Madrid por Meses a Través de HomesForTravellers

Septiembre es un mes de cambios. A menudo es un mes en el que nos planteamos nuevos objetivos,  iniciamos nuevas actividades o hobbies,  o cambiamos de trabajo o de casa, o de país, para emprender nuevas aventuras y experiencias.

Y la experiencia de encontrar casa en nuestro nuevo destino, o en el que residimos habitualmente no resulta fácil. Cheap Monthly Rentals in Madrid

 In Madrid, the apartment rental market is basically divided into 2 options:

•  Short Term Rentals in Madrid, mainly for tourists & holiday accommodation and business travellers  (see our own short-stay rentals in Madrid here)
•  Long term Rentals in Madrid, mostly for locals with a 1 to 5 year contract.

There are big differences between both options:

SHORT TERM RENTALS IN MADRID
Short-stay rentals are perfect when you want to stay in the city a few days, or maybe a couple of weeks, but when you need to be in Madrid for a few months, if you look at most of websites, the price can become prohibitive as tariffs are given per night, and anything over a month is often just too expensive. In HomesForTravellers we offer you great discounts for stays longer than one month and really special prices for stays longer than 3-6 months, depending on the apartment.

The main difference and also the main advantage is that in the short term rentals the apartments are fully furnished and equipped and, usually, all the bills are included in the price: electricity, heating, air conditioning, Internet connection and community bills. So, the rental price is a fix price, you will not have to spend more money, there are not extra or hidden costs. Also, the apartments are fully equipped, even with bed linen and towels, and all the kitchen appliances. That means a great saving because you only need to bring your personal things. And the Security Deposit, which will be refunded at the end of your stay is usually much lower or, in some of the apartments that we manage, you just will be just asked for your credit card details as a guarantee. You will not be charged any amount in your credit card if there are not any damages in the apartment at departure.  The maximum contract period for short term rentals is for 1 year and can not be extended.

LONG TERM RENTALS IN MADRID
It is often difficult to find long-term rentals in Madrid. Local landlords will offer longer stays but mostly ask for yearly contracts as a minimum, and these days almost all landlords ask for local bank guarantees, salary slips and job contracts as a guarantee that the tenant has financial stability. On the long term rent, most of the apartments in Madrid are not fully furnished and equipped and you will have to pay for all the bills, and contract directly with the suppliers (electricity, gas, telephone, internet connection, etc). That means that you will have to add to your rental price about 200€ per month to pay those bills. Also, you will have to pay in advance at least one month rental as a Security Deposit for the owner and other one month rental if you rent it through an agency plus the monthly fee.
