What´s on Madrid: Madrid 2012 Events: Shows


If you are a person interested in the theater, in Madrid you will find a wide range of performances and musicals. Here is a list of the main activities to be held in Madrid duringthe year just started.

Our are located in the heart of the capital, a few minutes walk, so do not miss anything that interests you.
And do not forget that if you plan to visit Madrid in January or February, you will take advantage of during the winter of 2012.
 
  • Compañía Nacional de Danza (18 to 22 January at Teatro de la Zarzuela): for his first season with the company director José Carlos Martínez has chosen to stage four productions which comprisea varied programme designed to offer spectators a wide range of approaches to dance.
  • Chicago (till 5 February at Nuevo Teatro Alcalá): the renowned musical, on stage at Broadway for 15 years, will be returning to Madrid for 3 months only, with 20 dance numbers filled with sensuality and unforgettable tracks sung to the tune of the best jazz.
  • Follies (10 February -8 April. Teatro Español): in a famous old theatre which is about to be demolished a group of former stars relive their experiences. Musical directed by Mario Gas, starring Vicky Peña and Carlos Hipólito.
  • Hair, Love & Rock Musical (Arteria Coliseum): a hippy tribe in 1960s New York confronts conservative society and imposed drafting to the Vietnam War. The rock music soundtrack is one of the best in history.
  • Más de 100 mentiras (Teatro Rialto Movistar): Joaquín Sabina's songs link together stories of poets and small-time crooks in this musical by the Úbeda-born singer and songwriter.
  • The Lion King (Teatro Lope de Vega): the musical adaptation of Disney´s classic is coming to Madrid. Over 50 million people have already seen the show which was born in Broadway and will soon be staged for the first time in Spain. Meet Simba, the lion cub who, together with his friends Timon and Pumba, sets out to defend his right to the throne.
  • Life and Death of Marina Abramovic (11 to 22 April at the Teatro Real opera house): artist Marina Abramovic is joined by actor Willem Dafoe in this multidisciplinary show about her own life, featuring live music by Antony Hegarty.
  • Cyrano de Bergerac (10 to 22 May at the Teatro Real opera house): Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo plays the lead role in this opera based on Edmond Rostand's famous novel.
  • Les Luthiers (25 September to 21 October at the Municipal Conference Centre): The entertaining musicians and comics from Argentina return to Madrid with their Lutherapia tour.
